Marking Shea

Through various other blogs, I was directed to this article from The Daily News. Basically, it's about how to mark certain areas of Shea's history. What do we know for sure about this? Officials have said, "Markers for home plate, the pitching rubber and second base will appear in traffic lanes, while first and third will be denoted in specific parking spots." They also say that they don't plan on added any additional markers. This has led to fellow Mets bloggers giving some of their own ideas of what should be marked in Citified's parking lot.

While I do like some of their ideas, I have one of my own. I think they should paint the dimensions of Shea in the lot. Paint the bases, foul lines, the pitcher's rubber, and where the outfield wall would've been (if that's possible. I haven't been to Citi yet, so I'm not too sure on how close the outfield wall would've been to landscape.) Plaques are great, but with the full dimensions I could do a pretty good job reliving my favorite Met moments without limiting myself to what the plaque says. I could stand on the site where pitchers like Seaver, Doc, Koosman, and Johan did some of their best work. I could run up the first base line like Mookie in '86, or like Robin Ventura hitting a Grand Slam Single. I could stand at the plate and admire how far the outfield wall is like Keith, Darryl, Piazza, Agee, Wright, and Kranepool once did. I could jump at the same area in the old outfield where Endy's catch turned a casual fan into die hard fanatic. To me, that would be perfect. I would be able stand out in those spots, and not have my memories mapped out or limited. Everyone has their favorites and I feel like a painted field in a parking lot would become a field of dreams for the generations of fans who grew up watching the Mets in big Shea.

Game 2 Mets @ Reds

• Rolllllaaaaiiiiidddddssss
• I hope Carlos Delgado gets his 500th this year. I'm sure some lucky fan on Mars found that ball he hit tonight.
• I like Jay Bruce, but the Reds outfield has been embarrassing so far.
• Big Pelf got his ass handed to him in the first, but I don't feel so bad because so did Eddy Volquez.
• The bullpen might have blown a few runs, but the bottom line is they got the win.
• After all the complaining about leaving guys on base in the past two days, it was really good to see the Mets rack up the runs for the win.
  
• Pelf, Castillo, and Schneids teamed up for one hell of a defensive play that saved a run. Wow.
  

Metsblog made me laugh

Blaming Flo Rida for anything generally makes me laugh.

Tell me more Jose...

No, that Jose. I'm talking about Jose Canseco (for some reason). According to this article in the LA Times, he's 90% sure that Manny Ramirez's name is on the same list as A-Rod's. I'm sorry (not really), but I can't take this guy seriously. All his fame right now is not based on his baseball career, but instead the fact that he was juicing up during it. He may have said that he's not proud of what he had done, but he's certainly banking off of it. Jose Canseco is a joke. Here's some highlights from the article.

"Here sits the great baseball sage Jose Canseco, dressed in a black hat and a black motorcycle jacket, slumped in a folding chair in a small room just off the main stage at USC's Bovard Auditorium."

(Oh you know if it starts like this it HAS to be good.)

"Jeez, I was quite a figure out there," Canseco says, his still-chiseled frame melting into the chair. "What a feeling, crushing that baseball in front of thousands in the stands, millions on TV."

(I was awesome, people respect me. At least I hope they do. Can I eat dinner with you?)

"Why didn't Ramirez get a long-term deal? Canseco asks. Why were owners gun-shy about signing arguably the game's best hitter?"

(There's an economic crisis, he's 36, teams are afraid of his defense, and there's that whole Manny being Manny thing)

According to the article, the author tracked down Manny and asked him about Jose's accusations. Manny stated, "I got no comment, nothing to say about that. What can I say? I don't even know the guy."

Ok so I'm a Manny fan. I wanted him on the Mets, I admit it. I honestly don't know where he would of fit because I love our outfield, but I wanted Manny.

The Mets won yesterday and the Yankees did not. Already the papers (and fans) are throwing the new players under the bus. Unless they did what was expected of them, then they're the second coming of Christ. That being said, Praise Frankie.

An off day already?

I don't really like having an off day right after opening day. It just seems like a really big tease to me. I get all pumped up for Opening Day and then BAM! Day off. Oh well at least this video exists, and it should be enough to hold me over until tomorrow. God bless you Johan. Even on off days you keep me happy.

Game 1 Mets @ Reds

First of all, I just want to mention that spring training felt like it was about 4 months long this year. It was great to finally have regular season baseball back in my life. Now on to the game...

• Johan Santana was outfreakinstanding today. Admittedly I was a bit worried because of his track record in cold weather, and the preseason rumors about not pitching on opening day. He walked a few more guys than I would've have liked him to, but hey he did the job we needed him to.
• Speaking of doing what we need them to do, how about that bullpen? Three off season acquisitions pitched three and a third scoreless innings. Although this was the first game of the season I didn't have any of the jitters that I had while going to the 'pen last year.
  
• Daniel Murphy. I don't think I need to say more than that.
• I was not frustrated with Luis Castillo today, and I will not be booing him when I'm at Citifield on Monday.
